Archive of Cwm Hedd Fishing Reports 15th October 2011 A slow start to the season-water temperatures still above 15degrees and gusting westerlies challenged anglers abilities. There is a good head of trout in the lake following the restocking in September and temperatures are expected to fall by 1 degree per week. - Mariusz Piasecki: one taken and five released on fritz. - James Pugh: one taken and four released on damsel. - Richard Groves: one taken and three released on fritz. Please note, normal fishing prices will apply from this date. 11th July 2011 Cwm Hedd Lakes is closed for private hire from the evening of Friday 15th July until Sunday 17th, so thats Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 13th June 2011 Few trout caught this week although plenty of activity was seen on the surface especially on the east bank.Very high temperatures and gusting winds made fishing hard work. Roy Davies managed two taken on a damsel nymph. James Pugh one taken and three released on a bloodworm. Richard Groves had an early start and caught three on a black daddy. From Monday 27th of June Cwm Hedd will be open from 6am until dusk,seven days a week. Payment can be made at the lodge via post box so please have the correct money as change cannot be given. Gwent Police held a competition at the lake, top position to Dave Cox who bagged his four trout on an olive lure. 6th February 2011 Very hard fishing at Cwm Hedd- howling westerlies made casting extremely difficult. Those anglers who braved the conditions caught mostly on orange blobs, bloodworm and cats. 30th January 2011 Biting easterlies for most of the week saw most fish caught at depth. Richard Groves: one taken and five released on a mini cat. 6th December 2010 The fishery has been closed this week due to the adverse weather conditions. 29th November 2010 Freezing weather has kept many anglers away this week, but there have been some good returns. Bill Williams, one taken and a further twelve released including a 10lb8oz on black daddies. Gene Hale, one taken and nine released on a white and green cat and yellow fritz. James Pugh, three to a total of 8lb on a minky. 22nd November 2010 Some excellent returns at the fishery this week-water temperatures continue to drop, and although wind speed and direction has been variable trout have been caught all around the lake. Christian Jones: one taken and eleven returned on a ghd black fritz with an intermediate line. Roger Martin: one taken and five released on a green and black montana. Roy Davies: three fish to a total bagweight of 81/2lb on a mini cat and montana. 15th November 2010 Good returns this week-atrocious weather midweek saw few fish caught,but this was more than made up for over the weekend.Cloudy skies saw fish caught near the surface,mostly cats and montanas.Bright days drove trout deep,with bloodworm the best pattern. Vernon Williams: one taken and six released on a bloodworm. 8th November 2010 Lures were most productive last week-cats,montanas and fritz.Changeable weather conditions unsettled the trout,but some good returns were reported. James Pugh: one taken and six released on orange and black montana and orange fritz. 1st November 2010 Some good returns this week at Cwm Hedd.A mixture of both intermediate and floating lines and naturals as well as lures taking trout. Bill Haigh, four fish taken on a ptn,fished on the dropper with a ghd ptn on the point.A floating line and the most gentle of retrieves took the total bag of 13lb. Mike Dummer, four fish taken,again on a ptn plus a ghd damsel.Floating line,slow retrieve off the island and east bank. Scot Davies one taken and five released on ptn. 17th October 2010 Varying returns at the fishery this week.Bright,flat calm conditions saw anglers really searching for trout.There were some pleasing reports,mostly on dull,overcast mornings.Water temperatures continue to fall,and trout have certainly become more active. James Pugh: three taken and two released on a black hopper. 17th May 2010 Rising water temperatures last week saw trout being taken on lures, both on the bottom and midwater. On cloudier days and in the evenings, a lot of surface activity was reported, with dry flies proving most productive. Mark Goodman, one taken and ten released on black buzzers and damsels-best fish to 51/2lb. Gene Hale, one taken and nine released on olive damsel and buzzer. Gene Hale: three taken best to 6lb on cats. 15th March 2010 Strong easterlies at the beginning of the week, and strong westerlies at the end of the week made fishing challenging. Gene Hale: four taken to a total of 13lb-best to 6lb, on fritz. 5th March 2010 Some good returns this week at Cwm Hedd.Strong, cold easterlies at the start of the week saw most fish caught off the East Bank and in the sheltered Inlet Bay.As the week progressed and the windspeeds dropped, the West bank and Island became more productive. Stef Micalef: three taken best to 6lb8oz on a Montana. Richard Mills:best to 6lb on a holographic fritz. Junior angler Anthony Jones caught a lovely 6lb12oz rainbow on a Cats Whisker. 22nd February 2010 Kasidit Leoviriyakit was the winner of this years Troutmaster fishoff at Cwm Hedd. Kas used a goldie to land four fish to a total weight of 14lb 4oz including a 6lb. In second place came Gary Wharton with three fish to 12lb, again on a goldie.Earlier in the week Gary landed a total of eleven fish with a yellow dancer on an intermediate line. Other returns this week were, Don Griffiths sixteen landed on a damsel. Lewis Llewellyn, seven landed including a 4lb brownie on a bloodworm. Roger Andrews, best fish to 7lb on P.T.N. Fishing was much harder on Sunday, probably due to fishing pressure during the previous week-please be aware that early mornings have been most productive, with lures such as cats and fritz on intermediate lines and slow retrieve working best. 15th February 2010 Some excellent returns from Cwm Hedd last week. Cats, fritz and damsels worked very well,although buzzers,bloodworms and pheasant tail nymphs also took their share of trout.
